Vote Joshua Putman 2040 USA President Election

The Issue

QA 1: Who is impacted?

I see that every American, from indebted graduates, struggling single parents to farmers facing drought and frontline communities affected by extreme weather, is impacted by our nation’s interconnected crises of health disparities, climate threats, economic insecurity, climate threats and democratic dysfunction. I see that low income families lack access to affordable healthcare and housing. From what I have seen is that in 2021, 25 percent of black households had zero or negative net wealth and over 42 percent of young adults were burdened by $1.6 trillion in student loans. I have seen voters who are disillusioned by political polarization, which unfortunately erodes trust in institutions and divides communities. Unfortunately, I have seen that communities of color are suffering higher risks from heat waves, floods, and pollution as climate change worsens. Unfortunately, I have seen that many families are denied lifesaving treatment because nearly one third of low income Americans lack quality health insurance.

QA 2: What is at stake?

If I were United States of America president, I would enact universal healthcare, universal housing and a guaranteed basic income to lift families from hardship. If I was president I would abolish the Electoral College and if I was president I would make ranked choice voting mandatory for all federal elections. If I was president I would make sure to end gerrymandering so we can ensure every vote counts, if I was president I would invest in green infrastructure and community resilience to protect every neighborhood from climate disasters. If I was president I would try my best to restore public trust through campaign finance limits, nonpartisan redistricting and civic education initiatives that empower voters nationwide. I think that the stakes of my potential presidency could not be higher.

QA 3: Why is now the time to act?

I think if we act, we will be able to strengthen our democracy, reverse decades of widening inequality and secure a livable climate for future generations. In my opinion, if we fail, poverty will deepen, America will fracture further, healthcare will remain out of reach, our democracy will erode under partisan duels and climate disasters will intensify, leaving millions behind. Based on my knowledge, every day without universal coverage subjects more people to medical premature death and debt. In my opinion, I feel that every election under the current Electoral College leaves voters in ignored states feeling disenfranchised, I think every delay in cutting emissions locks in more extreme storms and wildfires. I feel like now is the time to act because our window to environmental justice and a secure economy is closing. I see that inflation sits near four decade highs which has been forcing 63 percent of Americans to rate the cost of living as a very big problem. Student loan debt grows unchecked, impeding homeownership and family formation. I see that climate reports show record heat and floods across every region, which is threatening lives and livelihoods. I see that from my viewpoint is that political polarization accelerates, undermining our ability to govern, just as institutional trust hits new lows. If I was president in my opinion I believe that I would act immediately to implement evidence based reforms that rebuild every American, uplift every American and safeguard our planet for generations to come.
