A two-state solution to the Israeli-Palestinian conflict is the only way to solve it. But the traditional solution--Palestine in the West Bank and Gaza Strip--is dead due to Jewish settlements in the West Bank. Time for this alternative solution with a land swap: Israel forfeits its coastal plain south of Tel Aviv in exchange for annexing all of the West Bank. Palestine then exists only in the coastal plain as a very expanded Gaza Strip. If Egypt forfeits some North Sinai, this size of territory for Palestinians would equal the size of the West Bank and Gaza Strip. This proposal fits Israel's Proclamation of Independence, which claims Jews have a right to their "ancestral land." Jews of antiquity never possessed the coastal plain south of Joppa (Tel Aviv). Such a State of Palestine would exist in "the land of the Philistines" from whom Palestinians derive their name. This solution requires a costly transfer of people, but it will work better.
