The Issue

I am deeply concerned about a significant oversight that affects millions of Nigerian creators on TikTok. Despite Nigeria being one of the largest markets for this social media platform, with 37.4 million users contributing to viral trends and global content, Nigerian creators are being left behind in terms of recognition and compensation. This issue extends beyond just Nigeria, impacting creators across the African continent who are excluded from TikTok's Creator Rewards Program.

TikTok's Creator Rewards Program is designed to compensate creators based on their content's performance. Shockingly, while the program is accessible in countries like the US, UK, Germany, France, Brazil, South Korea, and many others, not a single African nation, including Nigeria, has full access to these benefits. This lack of inclusion is both unfair and discriminatory, as it excludes a significant portion of the platform's creative talent from receiving their due rewards for their hard work and innovation.

Consider this: Nigerian content is among the most culturally influential and widely consumed on TikTok, yet the creators behind these popular trends are not being compensated for their contributions. This disparity not only discourages creative expression but also undermines the economic potential of Nigerian creators who rely on the platform to showcase their talent and make a living.

I am calling on TikTok to address this injustice by opening the Creator Rewards Program to Nigerian and other African creators. By doing so, TikTok would not only ensure fair compensation and recognition for their contributions but also support the vibrant creative economy on the continent. As consumers and netizens, we have the power to drive change by urging TikTok to rectify this inequality.

Join me in demanding that TikTok expands its Creator Rewards Program to include Nigeria and other African countries. Sign this petition to push for fairness and equity for all creators, no matter where they are in the world. Together, we can make a difference and ensure that everyone gets a fair chance to benefit from their creativity.
