LAST CHANCE to secure a ceasefire in Syria before the World Cup

Dear friends, With your help, we have been appealing to World Leaders to declare a ceasefire in Syria and deliver a "World Cup of Peace." But these calls have been falling on deaf ears. It is painful that the world seems to care so little about the continued suffering our friends and family in Syria. 2.3 million Syrians in Syria's Idlib province are facing an endgame military assault which could create the worst humanitarian crisis of Syria's 7-year war. They say that the World Cup is a moment of celebration and that football should bring people together away from politics. But what if football is used as a whitewash, to mask harmful policies, violations and human suffering? Over 920,000 people have been displaced in Syria so far in 2018; the highest number since the start of the conflict. This is no cause for celebration. And yet World leaders are preparing to attend the World Cup opening ceremony in Russia over the next 48 hours, seemingly with no moral compunction, and with no words of protestation about the violations in Syria. There is still time to secure safety for Syrians if we raise our voices together to remind world leaders that Syrians deserve a lasting nationwide ceasefire and they need it NOW.
