Jusqu'au 15 juillet 2018, la grande fête du football se tient en Russie. Il serait malvenu de la gâcher. Mais il faut peut-être rappeler à chacun — footballeurs, supporters, spectateurs — où ils ont mis les pieds. En Russie, la presse libre n’est pas la règle, mais l’exception. La corruption est partout. La justice n’est pas indépendante. Le jeu politique est factice, car les partis d’opposition sont harcelés et ne peuvent participer aux élections. La censure règne dans le domaine artistique. Des personnalités d’opposition, comme Boris Nemtsov en février 2015, ont été assassinées. Des journalistes et des ONG sont soumis à une pression permanente. Des centaines d’artistes, d’entrepreneurs, de militants sont emprisonnés de façon arbitraire — comme le metteur en scène Kirill Serebrennikov, en résidence surveillée.

 

Vladimir Poutine est de nouveau président, jusqu’en 2024. Quant à Oleg Sentsov, il est en prison, au nord du cercle polaire, jusqu’en 2034. Ce réalisateur ukrainien a été arrêté peu après l’annexion de la Crimée par les forces spéciales russes en mars 2014. A partir de preuves fabriquées et de faux témoignages, ce militant du Maïdan a été accusé de fomenter des actions terroristes : destruction de statues de Lénine ou de bâtiments officiels. Il a été jugé en 2015 et condamné à 20 ans de prison. En septembre dernier, il a fait parvenir une lettre glaçante à la journaliste russe Zoïa Svetova. Il écrit notamment : « physiquement, bien sûr, personne ne me touche. Mais tu sais parfaitement que ce système peut punir et harceler de manière perverse, sans utiliser la force brute ». 
Il est en grève de la faim depuis plus de 45 jours. Il risque de mourir d'un jour à l'autre. Il faut agir vite.

 Le monde du cinéma mondial, jusqu’en Russie, appelle à la libération de cet homme injustement condamné. Il est temps d’élargir ce cercle.
Nous aussi, nous réclamons sa sortie de prison. A la veille de la probable réélection de Vladimir Poutine, et de la grande fête du football, c’est le moment de lui rendre sa liberté.

We must urgently release Oleg Sentsov

 

 

 To those who love cinema, football and democracy…or at least one of the three.

 

 

From June 14 to July 15, 2018, the world’s greatest football happening will take place in Russia. To spoil it would be uncalled-for, but it may be necessary to remind everyone – footballers, supporters, fans – of the soils on which they are about to set foot and upon which they are about to turn their gazes. In Russia, freedom of the press isn’t the rule. It is the exception. Corruption is ubiquitous. The legal system isn’t independent. The political spectrum is bogus, for the opposition parties are harassed and cannot participate in elections. Censorship reigns supreme in the artistic field. Personalities from the opposition (such as Boris Nemtzov in 2015) have been assassinated. Journalists and NGOs are harassed. Hundreds of artists, entrepreneurs, and militants are arbitrary imprisoned, as is the case with the director Kirill Serebrennikov, who is under house arrest.

 

Vladimir Poutine is about to run for a fourth mandate. It’s almost certain he will be re-elected. He will thus be president until 2024. As for Oleg Sentsov, he’s in prison, to the north of the Arctic Circle, until 2034. This Ukrainian director was arrested shortly after the annexation of Crimea by Russia’s Special Operations Forces in March 2014. Based on fabricated evidence and false testimonies, this militant from the Ukrainian Revolution was accused of fomenting terrorist acts; of the destruction of statues of Lenin or of official buildings. He was tried in 2015 and sentenced to 20 years in prison. Last September, he sent a spine-chilling letter to the Russian journalist Zoïa Svetova. He wrote in particular: “physically, of course, no one touches me. But you perfectly know that this system can push and harass perversely without resorting to any brute force.” We don’t know more about it, because the prisoner is practically cut off from the world. We have just learned that his health is deteriorating. We must act quickly.

 

All the way to Russia, many people involved in world cinema call for the liberation of this unfairly sentenced man. It’s time this circle extends. 

 

We too, we demand his release from prison, as we are on the brink of the possible re-election of Vladimir Poutine and of football’s big happening.

Необходимо немедленно освободить Олега Сенцова

 

Всем, кто любит кино, футбол и демократию... или хотя бы одно из трех.

 

С 14 июня по 15 июля 2018 года в России будет проходить большое футбольное празднество. Испортить его было бы нехорошо. Но, может быть, стоит напомнить каждому из футболистов, болельщиков, зрителей, куда они собираются направить свои стопы и взгляды. В России свободная пресса — не правило, а исключение. Везде процветает коррупция. Нет независимых судов. Политическая борьба — только фикция, поскольку оппозиционные партии подвергаются гонениям и не могут участвовать в выборах. В искусстве царит цензура. Оппозиционных деятелей убивают, как убили Бориса Немцова в феврале 2015 г. Журналистов и общественные организации постоянно притесняют. Сотни творческих людей, предпринимателей, активистов незаконно лишены свободы, — так, под домашним арестом находится режиссер Кирилл Серебренников.

 

Владимир Путин готовится выставить свою кандидатуру на четвертый президентский срок. И он наверняка будет избран. Тогда он останется у власти до 2024 года. А Олег Сенцов останется в тюрьме за полярным кругом до 2034-го. Этот украинский кинорежиссер был арестован вскоре после аннексии Крыма русскими военными в марте 2014 г. На основании сфальсифицированных доказательств и ложных свидетельств этот активист Майдана был обвинен в подготовке террористических актов — подрывах памятников Ленину и поджоге зданий общественных организаций. В 2015 г. его судили и приговорили к 20 годам тюремного заключения. Недавно, в сентябре, он прислал пугающее письмо русской журналистке Зое Световой. В частности, он пишет: «Физически меня, конечно, никто не трогает, но ты прекрасно понимаешь, что эта система может извращенно наказывать и издеваться, не применяя грубую силу». Больше мы ничего не знаем — узник практически отрезан от мира. Недавно нам стало известно, что здоровье его ухудшается. Надо действовать быстро.

 

Весь киномир, включая и российских кинематографистов, призывает власти освободить невинно осужденного. Пора расширить круг.

 

Мы тоже требуем его освобождения. Накануне предполагаемого переизбрания Путина и большого футбольного празднества самое время выпустить Олега Сенцова на свободу.

Всім, хто любить кіно, футбол і демократію ... або хоча б одне з трьох.

 

З 14 червня по 15 липня 2018 року в Росії буде проходити велике футбольне свято. Зіпсувати його було б недоречно. Але, напевно, варто нагадати кожному - футболістам, уболівальникам, глядачам - куди вони мають намір поїхати або звернути свої погляди. У Росії вільна преса - не правило, а виняток. Скрізь процвітає корупція. Немає незалежних судів. Політична боротьба - тільки фікція, оскільки опозиційні партії зазнають переслідувань і не можуть брати участь у виборах. У мистецтві панує цензура. Опозиційних діячів вбивають, як убили Бориса Нємцова в лютому 2015 року. Журналістів і громадські організації постійно переслідують. Сотні творчих людей, підприємців, активістів свавільно ув'язнено - так, під домашнім арештом перебуває режисер Кирило Серебренніков.

 

Володимир Путін готується виставити свою кандидатуру на четвертий президентський термін. І він скоріш за все виграє вибори.  Тоді він буде при владі до 2024 року. Що стосується Олега Сенцова, то він залишиться у в'язниці за полярним колом до 2034-го. Цей український кінорежисер був заарештований невдовзі після анексії Криму російськими військовими в березні 2014 року. На підставі сфабрикованих доказів і брехливих свідчень цей активіст Майдану був звинувачений в підготовці терористичних актів - підриві пам'ятників Леніну і підпалі будівель громадських організацій. У 2015 році його засудили до 20 років тюремного ув'язнення. Нещодавно, у вересні, він надіслав моторошний лист російській журналістці Зої Свєтовій. Зокрема, він пише "Фізично мене, звичайно, ніхто не чіпає, але ти прекрасно розумієш, що ця система може збочено карати і знущатися, не застосовуючи грубу силу". Більше ми нічого не знаємо - в'язень практично відрізаний від світу. Нещодавно нам стало відомо, що стан його здоров'я погіршується. Ми повинні діяти швидко.

 

Весь кіносвіт, включаючи і представників Росії, закликає владу звільнити несправедливо засудженого. Настав час розширити коло.

 

Ми також вимагаємо його звільнення. Напередодні ймовірного переобрання Путіна і великого футбольного свята саме час дати Олегу Сенцову свободу.
