To NATO Secretary-General Mark Rutte,

Your silence when President Trump stated that his goal is to annex countries such as Canada and Greenland during your meeting on March 13, 2025 was appalling and frightening. Your silence implied agreement or at the very least acceptance with the United States annexing NATO Allies. Your silence contradicted that “NATO, or the North Atlantic Treaty Organization, is a military alliance of 32 member states from North America and Europe, based on the principle of collective defense, meaning an attack on one is considered an attack on all.”

As citizens of NATO Allies, we ask that you hold a press conference and publicly state that you, as the NATO Secretary-General, reject all concepts or plans by any NATO Allies, such as the United States, to annex another NATO Allie, such as Canada or Greenland AND to reiterate that NATO’s fundamental goal is to safeguard the Allies' freedom and security by political and military means.

Let us remember that no one in a position of authority dared to challenge Hitler. The consequences of inaction by leaders were devastating. So, as of Secretary-General of NATO, break your silence and stand up to President Trump.
