The Western Distributor is one of the biggest road improvements that the Andrews Government are conducting this year, having them open up a new crossing of the Yarra River to ease pressure off the West Gate Bridge and cut travel time.

Having said this, the name Western Distributor is a very boring name for a road. Melbourne is one of the most popular cities in Australia, having to rival with Sydney to take the number one place.

In order to become as popular (or even more popular) as Sydney, we need to leech off the popularity of others. That is why I decided to petition the change of the name Western Distributor to the Matlock Expressway.

Renaming this road may benefit in many possible reasons. One of the biggest points is that this renaming could further boost profits from the road towards the Victorian Economy even more. It has been predicted that the road would increase the Victorian Economy by over $11 billion. If this renaming goes to plan, the boost may soar higher than expected for there would be plenty more road users using this freeway alongside the West Gate. Many Victorians such as those living in the western suburbs, those coming from Geelong to Melbourne, fanatics of the hit TV show The Simpsons, or even tourists coming to Melbourne from Avalon Airport. This can benefit increasing the governments funds to further benefit other improvements such as better funding for schools, transport, events, and even provide more jobs for Victorians.

Another benefit is to help put Melbourne on the map as one of the most popular cities in the world, attempting to surpass its rival city Sydney. If you go overseas and ask somebody to name a city and its famous landmark, there's a high possibility somebody would say "Sydney" and its landmark such as "The harbour bridge" or "The opera house". Nobody would think much about Melbourne and the Eureka Tower or the MCG. If the Matlock Expressway goes to plan, it will gain critical acclaim internationally, instantaneously putting Melbourne on the global map of popular places. It could also help the local area of Footscray and surroundings gain some good recognition as well. 

Melbourne is a vibrant and bold city, and it should be reflected in our roads and infrastructure. Mr Andrews, please take this into consideration.
