The Port Neches-Grove (Texas) high school’s  cheerleaders and mascots portray inappropriate, inaccurate, and racist stereotypes of Native American chiefs and “squaws”. It is damaging and dehumanizing to the Indigenous community everywhere. For too long have famous and small town sports teams used this racist image for fun and for prejudice. It is mockery and racism. It is the miseducation and the perpetuation of racist and inaccurate images of Native peoples. It needs to end. Eliminate this ignorance. Make a change for the Native children everywhere who see this and think of themselves as just a joke and a “dumb Indian”. By signing you say that they are more.
