Great news! Governor Ige released his list of potential veto bills on Monday June 27, 2022 which he intends to veto by July 12. Included in the list of bills was a flawed potential flavored vaping ban HB1570, which included all tobacco products including a ban of menthol tobacco cigarettes.

HB1570 had a volatile legislative session during its time with legislative committees. The bill had been deferred at one point and was resurrected and amended several times. The most recent amendment made was an exclusion for FDA approved vaping products which polarized the anti-vaping groups who grappled with the ability to allow the potential of flavored FDA products for use in Hawaii in the future.

The bill was met with strong opposition from the Hawaii vaping industry who collectively represent hundreds of businesses, thousands of jobs and millions of dollars in Hawaii state tax revenue. While the parties in favor of a flavored vaping ban cite the concerns over youth access to flavored tobacco products, the Hawaii vaping industry is calling for enforcement of the current 21 and over law which is not being enforced to the fullest extent.

Thank you to everyone who has participated on this petition. Your help is still needed to ensure we get him to veto the bill by July 12. Please place a phone call and email once more to Gov Ige's office and request his veto.
