I'm Adam Hawk  thanks for signing my petition. I wanted to let you know that  I’m seeking a nomination with the Vancouver Green Party for Park Board.  11:59 p.m. on  Saturday May 23rd is the cut off for new members to sign up to be eligible to participate in the nomination vote on June 6th. 

I’m a longtime cycling advocate and active with HUB Cycling, Vision Zero Vancouver, and Critical Mass. I alos help organize cycling events in the city with Velopalooza.ca festival.   

I believe we need closer coordination between the Park Board and City Engineering to improve safe bike infrastructure across Vancouver leveraging  park land to close gaps in the bike network is an easy win. Bringing back the Stanley Park Bike lane is another quick fix.

I’ve also gardened at Strathcona Community Garden for over 15 years and strongly support expanding and protecting community gardens as valuable public spaces.

As both a swimmer and a parent, I know firsthand how difficult it is to book swim lessons. Vancouver urgently needs more indoor and outdoor pools, including more 50m pools for athletes and aspiring athletes, along with more swim instructors so every child can learn to swim.

We also need to invest in community centres. There has long been a priority list based on need, but Mayor Sim ignored it to favour politically advantageous neighbourhoods, leaving aging centres to deteriorate further.

Finally, protecting and expanding our urban tree canopy is more important than ever as density increases under the Broadway Plan. Shaded parks, fountains, and water features are essential for residents and wildlife during worsening summer heat waves.
