We did it! In less than a month, we gathered 2,182 more signatures on our Senate Petition urging Senators to pass Bill S-203 banning cetacean captivity in Canada. This should make quite an impact when they are presented to the Senate next week, as hand-signed petitions are rare. A whale of a thanks to all S-203 supporters in BC, Alberta, Ontario and Quebec who sent us filled petitions and helped gather hand-written signatures. Special thanks to Errol Povah, Jen Dobell, Anita Katzberg, Anne Birthistle, Rhonda and Dean Mailey, Natalija Sotlar and Geoff Regier, Anne Birthistle, Rei Tamori, Ed Sadler, Laloni Riddle, Josie Byington in Victoria, M. Walters in Nanoose Bay, Chantal Manour and Eve Marre Gingras in Montreal, Maureen Boag in Toronto, and Irene Davey at the Gibsons Wildlife Rehab Center. Getting the word out has been critical in this campaign to make it a criminal offense under Canada's Animal Cruelty Act to keep, train, trade and breed cetaceans. With Sen. Moore in Nova Scotia (and going to a whale sanctuary workshop in Halifax later this month), this is truly a national effort. This petition comes in addition to the 2,000+ signatures we collected last year and already presented to the Senate by Sen. Moore. Whale of a job, guys!
