If you live close to Robson and Denman in Vancouver, you can drop off your petitions at the Mailroom on 1755 Robson Street, open Monday to Friday from 9:30am to 6pm.
We plan to FedEx all petitions together in a package to the Senators with a No Whales In Captivity letter again urging them to pass Senate Bill S-203 banning cetacean captivity in Canada at their meeting in late October.
SUMMARY
Senate Bill S-203 was first tabled by Senator Moore last year and it has now passed first and second reading. We are currently working on getting Senators to allow the bill to go for third reading, which is the final step for the bill to take in the Senate.
If the Senators vote in favour of passing the bill for a third
time (passing third reading) then the bill would be sent to
Parliament where it would also be put up for a final vote. If a majority of Members of Parliament (MPs) vote in favour of making Bill S-203 law, then it will become a criminal offense under the Cruelty To Animals Act to keep whales and dolphins performing in captivity in Canada. In other words, rescues are allowed, but whale shows are not.
Thank you for your help with this most important whale campaign. Making whale captivity illegal across Canada is a huge milestone in our fight to end the cruelty to all animals.
Stay tuned, much more to come!
