We are asking Vancouver City Council to enact a school zone with 30 km/h speed limit around the 3000 block of Commercial Drive. This area of around 3 blocks is home to 2 schools: Stratford Hall (kindergarten to grade 12) and CEFA Early Learning (children aged 1-5). Across the street is Clark Park, which contains a children’s playground that the children often use. The speed limit of 40 km/h is rarely enforced, and there are essentially no traffic calming measures in place. We have noticed that cars are often speeding on this stretch of Commercial Drive, and we feel it is unsafe for the many children in this area. We feel it is inevitable that there will be an incident between a child and a speeding car at this location, and we ask you to intervene before this happens.
