Using solar power in NYC schools

The Issue

NYC has an issue with relying on non-renewable sources such as coal, gas, and oil to generate electricity, heat buildings, and power transportation. About 70% of New York City’s greenhouse gas emissions come from buildings mostly powered by fossil fuels. Burning these fossil fuels release large amounts of greenhouse gases into the atmosphere, which contributes to a significant amount of air pollution and global warming. To reduce the use of fossil fuels, we can use renewable sources as a source of energy. Using solar energy achieves our goal of reducing green house gas emissions into the atmosphere. We can start by introducing these into NYC schools with your help! NYC produces around 50 million metric tons of greenhouse gases per year, and doing this will reduce the amount of greenhouse gases in NYC.Installing solar panels on the schools can reduce electricity related emissions by up to 80–100% for a building. For me, I have never saw a single solar panel on a school building, and was thinking the countless benefits of solar panels on NYC schools. We know that we can't install solar panels on every single school, but we could try to install as much as we can. Even though solar panels can cost a lot, and also take a lot of time, in the future, it will all be worth. The reason we are doing this is because in the future, we may not be able to do anything about climate change. We should act now before it is too late, as there will be drastic sea level rise, extreme weather, and widespread biodiversity loss. If we don't do something now, who knows what will happen in the future.

Our goals:
Reduce greenhouse gas emissions in NYC
Install solar panels on NYC  schools
Use less fossil fuels
Save money for NYC schools
Improve air quality
