Dear Supporters,

Thank you!

I am very happy to share that we have reached not 1,000, not 2,500, but over 4,000 signatures! The next milestone is 5,000 – every extra signature we obtain is going to be critical: the more signatures, the more exponential the increase will become.

I also wanted to use this opportunity to thank the generous donors who have made it possible for the petition to become more visible – your donations are responsible for one quarter of the signatures we have obtained, so thank you.

I am pleased to announce that petition is now available in six languages (thank you to those who proof-read the translations!): English, Arabic, Spanish, French, German and Italian. The total signature count is now also visible on each version. You can find the links to these at the bottom of this letter.

The situation in Palestine

But let’s turn our eyes back to Palestine: as you know, the situation there is dire – very little aid is getting in, and more and more people are starving. Medical aid is very hard to come by, and the staff are exhausted and also undernourished. There is now also a lack of basic medical supplies. The forced evacuation of Gaza City has forced hundreds of thousands onto the roads, with nowhere to go, leaving many to simply sleep out in the open. The bombings are relentless, and the Israeli government and its Occupation Forces are still finding new ways to kill and terrorise the Palestinians in Gaza, while ramping up violence and evictions in the West Bank.

We are at a crossroads – this petition needs to be sent as soon as possible to the UN Secretary General, demanding that he convene a meeting of the General Assembly to vote on implementing Resolution 377; on the other hand, we need as many signatures as possible to make a real impact. So, I’m writing today to ask you to please continue sharing the petition with your friends and family, and explain what is really happening in Gaza. As you know, the genocide has now also been formally recognised by the UN:

  • “In establishing the genocidal acts, the Commission examined the Israeli military operations in Gaza, including killing and seriously harming unprecedented numbers of Palestinians; imposing a total siege, including blocking humanitarian aid leading to starvation; systematically destroying the healthcare and education systems in Gaza; committing systematic acts of sexual and gender based violence; directly targeting children; carrying out systematic and widespread attacks on religious and cultural sites; and disregarding the orders of the International Court of Justice.”[i]

If you have a little time, you can also consider sharing the links to the petition or the QR code for your language on social media, as comments under posts, videos, or articles about Palestine. Many people have signed the petition and shared it on, thanks to this method, and I thank them for their dedication to this. Each comment I post usually gets between 5 and 10 “likes” and generates 2 or 3 additional signatures.

There are also other ways you can help:

  • by joining the BDS movement (Boycott – Divest – Sanction) and refusing to buy Israeli products or services[ii],
  • by emailing or calling your representatives and asking them what they are doing for Palestine
  • by donating to a community kitchen via chuffed.org (there are many)
  • by pre-paying e-sims so that people in Gaza can communicate with the world even if the Internet is cut off – a phone is their only way of appealing for help to be able to buy food. https://connecting-humanity.org/

or funding a family grouping directly via their gofund.me campaign (you will find appeals and links on Instagram, for instance; it is easy to check their authenticity by messaging with them) – I personally am in touch on Instagram with @gaza.sara and her six children. Not only can you help them get a little food, but also provide much-needed moral support, just by texting and listening to them. She also provides me with insight about the situation on the ground since so many journalists have been murdered.

Let’s all work together to make this endeavour successful! Free Palestine!

With warm regards and all my thanks,

Tamsin
