Addressing some concerns that have been raised about this proposed rule change:
First of all, some have said that this wouldn't work for many leagues, especially smaller communities that may not have the numbers to field rosters with equal numbers of female- and male-matching players. And yes, that's true. But this rule change isn't designed for those situations. Leagues can (and will, and should!) continue to designate the ratio that works for their community.
It may have been unclear, but this is proposal is specific to the club division; leagues (and non-sanctioned tournaments) can follow suit if they are able.
Also suggested is adopting the WFDF rule:
At the start of the game, after the first disc flip, an additional disc flip happens with the winner selecting the gender ratio for the first point. For the second and third points the ratio must be the reverse of the first point. For the fourth and fifth points the ratio must be same as the first point. This pattern of alternating the ratio every two points repeats until the end of the game (half time has no impact on the pattern).
We've already considered this rule. Having never played WFDF games, we can only speculate how it would play out, but it seems difficult to keep track of. In unobserved games, we've all had enough trouble just keeping track of the score sometimes. We felt that keeping the ratio per half has the same result while being much simpler.
