More media outlets are paying attention to and providing coverage for the ongoing crisis of our 104 members still detained in Turkey, highlighting the harrowing reports of physical abuse and human rights violations that they had to endure, both at the border and while in detention.
After interviewing two members of the Ahmadi Religion of Peace and Light, Alexandra Foreman and Hadil Elkholi, British radio station and news platform LBC published a comprehensive article on the case on June 18th.
The report outlined the violent scenario that erupted at the border, leading to the rounding up of our members by Turkish border guards. It also highlighted Alexandra’s firsthand accounts of the interrogation, intimidation, and false accusations she experienced during her detention. It emphasized the appalling treatment of the 104 members, including deprivation of medical care, lack of sanitary products for women as well as the torture and abuse endured by our members while in detention and the harrowing conditions they were kept in.
The article also sought responses from Frontex and the Turkish interior ministry.
It showcased Alexandra and Hadil's urgent call for intervention from the UN, EU, and Western governments to prevent the deportation of the 104 members and ensure their safety.
Scottish paper, the Daily Record also published an article about the case today, after interviewing both Alexandra and another fellow member of the faith, Scottish national Sermad Al-Khafaji who was present with the 104 members at the border.
This recent coverage by both LBC, the Daily Record, and other media outlets adds to the growing media attention on the crisis, further amplifying the call for immediate intervention and drawing international awareness to the plight of the 104 members still held in Edirne up to this date.
