Dear supporters, It seems I was premature in suggesting our human rights were safe for now. Just days before the election, the Prime Minister has threatened to rip up our human rights laws. In these turbulent times, the Human Rights Act is a beacon of hope for so many. I used it to ensure my autistic son Steven was brought home – not trapped in a care home 150 miles away from me. Many others have had similar experiences, from the Hillsborough families to domestic violence victims. Theresa May’s plans are an attempt to win cheap political points and headlines – at the expense of our democracy, freedom and rights. Our values and principles are what separates us from the terrorists. They are the very things they want to attack. We cannot let them win by sacrificing our human rights. Thank you for your support.
