the Lismore City Council has voted this down.

This proposal would have only taken up 1/5 of Hepburn Park, allowing all sports and recreation to continue.
Flood survivors froze during winter and are now going to fry during summer. They will continue to bounce between hotel rooms until emergency accommodation runs out, or stay in their homes with no walls or bathroom, reliving the terror of feb 28th every few weeks when a new flood warning comes, some will stay sleeping in cars and caravans on the flood plain, some are not even that lucky. 

In my opinion this decision did not come from a realistic or reasonable place, with one councillor who voted against, who owns a realestate agency, stating the NRRC should pay for rentals instead. One councillor, who likened flood survivors to drug addicts, criminals and pedophiles, also voted it down. 
6 councillors chose to listen to the emails from non flood affected citizens who claimed they do not want “those people” in the park, over the heart crushing words spoken on the night by those who lost everything. 

There is no backup plan, it is feeling more and more hopeless by the day in Lismore. This is a human rights crisis, and I am heartbroken for my community and for all those who are going to continue to face homelessness over Christmas with no reprieve in sight.
