URGENT: Ventura Dog Protecting Family Could Be Euthanized

The Issue

On April 22, 2015, Shadow, a docile, beautiful two-year-old loving pit bull mix, watched as a number of police officers physically struggled to take down a member of his family.  With no understanding of the scene unfolding before him, Shadow instinctively went to the defense of a person he loved.  During the physical encounter Shadow latched on to the forearm of one officer and another police officer shot him in the neck.  After the incident we learn eyewitness accounts and court documentation indicate Shadow’s human had been physically assaulted before Shadow made one move.  This comes as no surprise to those who know Shadow.  Shadow is not an aggressive dog!

Shadow has been held at the Ventura County Animal Shelter because of his instinctual protective actions since that tragic night.  Since his confinement, Shadow’s emotional and physical well-being has spiraled up and down.

Shadow has already paid a terrible price for this action prompted by the actions of humans.  Now, a former police chief and K-9 trainer turned Deputy Director with animal services in San Diego County has authorized his euthanization by Ventura County Animal Services if pages upon pages of demands are not met.  The demands are not only unduly punitive, they cannot possibly be met by Shadow’s homeless owner.  Shadow wants nothing more than to love and be loved.  This is all he knows.  This is all he understands.

By signing this petition, you will join Shadow’s supporters in our quest for justice for him and could help persuade the authorities to remove the possible imposition of a death sentence in a “no-kill” county.  Further, the stand being taken on Shadow’s behalf could prove beneficial for all other animals accused of being a nuisance, including perhaps one day your own beloved pet.  You will also take issue with the flawed legal procedures governing such cases in the City and County of Ventura.  (Further information on these deficiencies can be found at https://docs.google.com/document/d/1WI9gzwQFsUhdpyU_OAkZJS0BfOpl4eRISg4oi6eIgAg/edit?usp=sharing; https://drive.google.com/file/d/0B_OSg9wEO_xeOHNLRks3RkV6MDA/view?usp=sharing; and https://drive.google.com/file/d/0B_OSg9wEO_xeN0pQN2Utc0JFOHc/view?usp=sharing.)

Please sign our petition and spread our plea for help.  We need your support more than words can say.  Grains of sand make a beach.  Drops of water make an ocean.  Please help save his life.  He and the many who love him will forever be grateful.

You can also choose to leave a comment about the importance of individuals and a community showing compassion and respect for the value of every life and in so doing make our lives and the world a better place.
