SUBJECT: URGENT REQUEST FOR SECURITY MEASURES, PEACE-BUILDING  INITIATIVES, PROTECTION OF MEGHALAYA’S REPUTATION, RESTORATION OF NATIONAL SYMBOLS, AND COMPENSATION FOR AFFECTED CITIZENS

Respected Sir,

We, the undersigned citizens and residents of Meghalaya, represented and supported by the Meghalaya Linguistic Minority Development Forum (MLMDF), submit this petition to seek your immediate intervention following recent events that have spread fear, insecurity, and property damage across our communities. Meghalaya has a proud legacy of peace, hospitality, and harmonious coexistence. The current tension requires firm, fair action against wrongdoers and genuine efforts toward reconciliation, rather than collective blame or rhetoric that escalates division.

OUR APPEAL

We respectfully urge the authorities to take the following steps:

  • Ceremonial Restoration the Statues of Netaji Subhas Chandra Bose and Swami Vivekananda
Following the recent damage to the statues of these revered national icons, we request their dignified restoration and reinstallation through an official ceremonial process. Securing these monuments will reaffirm our collective respect for national heritage and promote unity.
  • Restore Security and Public Confidence and build Peace
Implement immediate preventive measures across vulnerable areas to safeguard the lives, property, and dignity of all residents, ensuring an environment free from intimidation and violence.
  • Conduct Impartial Investigations
Ensure swift, unbiased investigations into all recent incidents of violence and vandalism. Those responsible must be held accountable under the law, regardless of their background or affiliations.
  • Foster Dialogue and Reconciliation to Avoid Future Violence
Initiate structured, ongoing dialogues involving civil society, youth groups, and community leaders to heal divisions, counter polarization, and rebuild long-term trust.
  • Compensate Affected Citizens
Innocent individuals should never bear the cost of inter-community or inter-state conflict. We ask that the government establish a structured mechanism to provide timely compensation to those whose homes, vehicles, or livelihoods were damaged, reserving the right to recover these costs from perpetrators once identified
  • Protect Meghalaya’s Reputation
Isolated acts by a few should not define or defame an entire state. We request responsible public messaging from leadership and decisive action against online misinformation and inflammatory narratives aimed at vilifying our communities.

This petition is a unified call to protect everyday citizens who deserve safety and stability. Justice must be to every one affected. By protecting the innocent, restoring our national symbols with honor, and compensating those who have suffered losses, we can safeguard the mutual respect and peace that define our region. We call upon the Hon’ble Union Home Minister and the Hon’ble Chief Minister of Meghalaya to take prompt, decisive action to restore security, support affected families, and protect the dignity of our state.

DURING THE PETITION SOME REQUEST MAYBE FULFILLED PARTIALLY OR COMPLETELY BUT THE PETITION WILL KEEP ROLLING UNTILL ALL PRAYERS ARE DULY FULFILLED.
