Urgent Request for Construction of a Pedestrian Subway at Barrackpore Railway Station

The Issue

As a concerned citizen and daily commuter, I am writing to highlight the urgent need for the construction of a pedestrian subway at Barrackpore Railway Station. This station serves as a vital transit point for thousands of passengers daily, yet the absence of a safe and efficient crossing mechanism poses significant challenges.

Current Challenges:

Safety Risks: Commuters, including children and the elderly, are often compelled to cross multiple railway tracks, leading to potential accidents and injuries.

Congestion: The lack of a dedicated pedestrian pathway results in overcrowding on platforms, especially during peak hours, causing delays and discomfort.

Proposed Solution:

The construction of a pedestrian subway would address these issues by:

Enhancing Safety: Providing a secure passageway for commuters, thereby reducing the risk of track-related accidents.

Improving Traffic Flow: Facilitating smoother movement within the station premises, leading to decreased congestion and improved punctuality of train services.

Contextual Considerations:

It's noteworthy that while significant infrastructure projects, such as the Baranagar-Barrackpore Metro extension, have faced delays due to various challenges

, the immediate construction of a pedestrian subway is a more feasible undertaking. This project would require relatively lower investment and could be completed within a shorter timeframe, directly benefiting the daily commuters of Barrackpore.

In light of these points, I earnestly request the concerned authorities to prioritize the development of a pedestrian subway at Barrackpore Railway Station. Such an initiative would significantly enhance commuter safety and operational efficiency at this crucial junction.
