Piscine, patinoire, avenue des jeux : Préservons le cœur battant de la station
Maintenons, modernisons et réinventons la piscine et la patinoire de l’avenue des Jeux. Préservons cet espace de la densification urbaine que la mairie voudrait nous imposer.
Depuis des générations, la piscine et la patinoire sont bien plus que des équipements sportifs. Elles sont des lieux de vie, de rencontres, de loisirs et de souvenirs, où se retrouvent habitants, familles, enfants et vacanciers. Elles contribuent à l’animation et à l’attractivité de l’avenue des Jeux, tout en maintenant, au cœur d’une station déjà très urbannisée, un espace public ouvert, ensoleillé et animé, avec des vues exceptionnelles sur la montagne.
Aujourd’hui, la municipalité prévoit de les détruire et les transférer derrière l’AgorAlp (palais des sports). En remplacement, les orientations présentées le 11 août font apparaître un projet comprenant notamment commerces, hébergements, activités, hôtel et parking souterrain, avec des constructions pouvant atteindre R+ combles (6 m) côté Ménandière et R+2+combles ou R+3+combles (17 m) côté patinoire, avec un panorama (cône de vue) considérablement réduit. Une petite place publique serait créée, avec une petite patinoire éphémère.
Ce projet ne déplacerait donc pas seulement deux équipements publics. Il changerait profondément la nature du cœur de notre station.
DES ÉQUIPEMENTS PUBLICS D’INTÉRÊT GÉNÉRAL
Dès leur création, la piscine et la patinoire appartiennent au patrimoine public de la commune et participent, depuis des générations, à l’âme et à l’animation de l’Alpe d’Huez.
Leurs emplacements exceptionnels, au cœur de la station, ouverts sur le soleil et la montagne, contribuent pleinement à son identité et à son attractivité, concourant à sa spécificité.
Pourquoi déplacer à l’AgorAlp ce qui a toujours fait l’originalité de la station ?
Pourquoi confiner demain la piscine et la patinoire dans un espace fermé et bétonné, entre l’AgorAlp et l’Odalys, alors qu’elles peuvent rester ouvertes sur la montagne et au cœur de la vie locale ?
MODERNISER, OUI. DÉNATURER, NON.
Réduire les consommations énergétiques et moderniser nos équipements sont nécessaires. Mais cela doit-il obligatoirement conduire à les déplacer et à construire des immeubles sur les espaces qu’ils occupent ?
Pourquoi ne pas les réinventer sur place, avec des équipements publics et des usages adaptés aux saisons ?
Déplacer nos équipements publics : NON.
Construire à leur place des immeubles : NON.
La piscine, la patinoire et les espaces publics alentour constituent un patrimoine communal au service de tous.
Ils doivent rester publics et consacrés à l’intérêt général.

- Le retrait du projet municipal de constructions privées sur l’avenue des Jeux
- Le maintien d’une piscine découverte publique
- Le maintien d’une patinoire modernisée
- La préservation de cet espace public pour l’intérêt de tous

Swimming Pool, Ice Rink, Avenue des Jeux: Let’s Preserve the Beating Heart of the Resort
Let’s preserve, modernise and reinvent the swimming pool and ice rink on Avenue des Jeux. Let’s protect this area from the urban densification that the municipality is proposing.
For generations, the swimming pool and ice rink have been far more than just sports facilities. They are places where people meet, socialise, enjoy their leisure time and create memories — bringing together residents, families, children and holidaymakers. They contribute to the vibrancy and appeal of Avenue des Jeux while preserving, at the heart of an already highly urbanised resort, an open, sunny and lively public space with exceptional views of the mountains.
Today, the municipality plans to demolish them and relocate them behind AgorAlp (the Sports Centre). In their place, the plans presented on 11 August include shops, accommodation, leisure facilities, a hotel and underground parking. Buildings could reach one storey plus an attic level (6 m) on the Ménandière side, and two or three storeys plus an attic level (17 m) on the ice-rink side, considerably reducing the panoramic view (view corridor). A small public square would be created, together with a small temporary ice rink.
This project would therefore do far more than simply relocate two public facilities. It would profoundly change the very nature of the heart of our resort.
PUBLIC FACILITIES SERVING THE GENERAL INTEREST
Since their creation, the swimming pool and ice rink have formed part of the municipality’s public heritage and, for generations, have contributed to the character and vibrancy of Alpe d’Huez.
Their exceptional locations in the heart of the resort, open to the sunshine and the mountains, are an integral part of its identity and attractiveness and contribute to what makes Alpe d’Huez unique.
Why relocate to AgorAlp something that has always been part of the resort’s distinctive character?
Why should the swimming pool and ice rink be confined tomorrow to an enclosed, built-up area between AgorAlp and Odalys, when they could remain open to the mountains and at the heart of local life?
MODERNISE, YES. DESTROY ITS CHARACTER, NO.
Reducing energy consumption and modernising our facilities are necessary. But does this necessarily mean relocating them and constructing buildings on the land they currently occupy?
Why not reinvent them where they are, with public facilities and uses adapted to the different seasons?
Relocating our public facilities: NO.
Building apartment blocks in their place: NO.
The swimming pool, ice rink and surrounding public spaces are part of the municipality’s heritage and exist for the benefit of everyone.
They must remain public and dedicated to the general interest.
WE THEREFORE CALL FOR, IN THE GENERAL INTEREST:
* The withdrawal of the municipality’s plans for private development on Avenue des Jeux
* The preservation of a public outdoor swimming pool
* The preservation and modernisation of the ice rink
* The preservation of this public space for the benefit of everyone
