We hope you are all keeping well and safe during these challenging times.

Everyone is feeling the effects of coronavirus, but we know that this pandemic is hitting the vulnerable hardest. While we are being told to stay in our homes, refugees at Europe's borders have only a tent, often shared between two or three families. While we are being told to wash our hands, many of those living in the Greek island camps do not have access to soap. 100 people share a tap working for two hours a day. If the virus enters any of these overcrowded camps, it will cause untold devastation.

Which is why we're sharing this petition with you, asking the European Commission and EU governments to evacuate overcrowded refugee camps and enact necessary measures to prevent the spread of coronavirus amongst the refugee population.

Now more than ever we need to look out for those who are vulnerable within our communities: both in our neighbourhoods and in our European community.

You can also read the government's recent proposals regarding refugee family reunification here: https://www.gov.uk/government/publications/unaccompanied-asylum-seeking-children-family-reunion-policy-statement - we're pleased to see that they are upholding the definition of 'relative,' but want to see that this is supported by other key EU protections, and enshrined in UK law. It is also essential that they include contingency plans, particularly in the light of COVID-19 and its potential effect on asylum seekers in Europe and the UK - we will keep you posted!
