You may have heard the tragic news today, that the bodies of 39 people, including one teenager, have been found in a container lorry in Essex. We are devastated to hear that so many lives have been lost, and our thoughts are with the families and friends of the victims.

This event was not inevitable. Not a single one of those people deserved to die. The discovery is a terrible reminder of the human cost of our ‘secure’ borders, and what happens when we continue to close down safe and legal routes of migration.

We will be at the Home Office at 10:30 tomorrow morning to hand in the petition, where we will also have a minute’s silence for those who lost their lives.

There will also be a vigil tomorrow evening at 6:30pm at the Home Office. Alongside Safe Passage, Stand up to Racism and Care4Calais, we will be commemorating the victims, and demanding safe passage.

Please come and join us.
