Sept 8: A Gen Z protest began — young people demanding change, against corruption and injustice. By night, bullets were fired. At least 19 killed. Hundreds injured. Families broken.

Sept 9: The protest was overtaken by violence. The country burned.

• Parliament, Singha Durbar, ministries, courts, and public offices on fire.
• Some people got burnt live (still waiting for the count)
• Media houses, including Kantipur Media Group, torched.
• Businesses — from small shops to Bhat-Bhateni — looted and destroyed.
• Homes, hotels, and schools damaged.
• Police check posts set on fire.
• Ordinary people seen carrying police guns and stolen uniforms.
• 13,000+ prisoners escaped.
• On social media, people openly encouraged killing and burning.

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

And it pushed Nepal decades backward.  

Why this is urgent
Nepal faces a crisis of accountability. No one is taking responsibility. Meanwhile:

• Families of Sept 8 are still waiting for justice.
• Ordinary people lost homes, shops, and businesses.
• Looters, arsonists, and escaped prisoners are still free.
• People are openly spreading violent calls online.
• If we wait for elections, it will be too late. Evidence will vanish. Fear will spread. Trust will collapse.

 

 

 

 

 

What must be done

 

• Form an independent investigation team immediately.
• Investigate Sept 8 shootings - who gave the order, why live fire was used.
• Sept 9 destruction — arson, looting, jailbreaks, burning of public and private property.
• Attacks on media.
• Burning of police check posts, stolen weapons and uniforms.
• People encouraging violence on social media, in Nepal and abroad.
• Hold state and non-state actors accountable.
• Publish findings on a fixed timeline. No delays.
• Compensate families, small businesses, workers, and ordinary people who suffered.

Why it matters
This is not just about politics. This is about you and me — ordinary citizens who want to protect our country.
