Urgent Diplomatic Intervention Needed: Save Innocent Baljinder Singh from Saudi Death Row
The Issue
We urge the Government of India and the Ministry of External Affairs to launch an immediate diplomatic intervention to save Sardar Baljinder Singh, a humble truck driver from Pathankot, Punjab, who has been wrongfully sentenced to death in Saudi Arabia.
Nearly three years ago, Baljinder—a devout Amritdhari Sikh with an unblemished, crime-free record—was deceitfully handed a package disguised as medicine for an elderly man before his transit. Unknown to him, the package contained narcotics. He was apprehended upon arrival and has languished in Saudi custody ever since. He is a victim of transnational deception and human trafficking.
His elderly parents, wife, and two young children in India have already exhausted their entire life savings (over ₹70 Lakhs) trying to fight a complex legal battle under foreign laws. They are completely shattered and helpless.
Because Saudi Arabia does not announce execution dates in advance, time is running out. We respectfully demand that the Ministry of External Affairs (MEA) and Hon'ble Minister Dr. S. Jaishankar:
- Formally engage with Saudi authorities to secure a stay or review of the sentence.
- Provide immediate, robust state-sponsored legal aid and consular access.
- Coordinate closely with the Indian Embassy in Riyadh to explore all diplomatic and royal pardon channels.
