The Issue

Let us use our collective power to change the world with compassion, courage, and love without limits.

We the People, demand that our elected representatives in every U.S. state actively uphold due process, rule of law, and the first amendment to free speech.

MESSAGE

Dear elected representatives,

International students and many people in the United States of America have been arrested and detained frequently without due process of law. This is a constitutional rights violation.

We look at the improper Ice detetentions and federal militarization in select U.S. cities. We consider the use of Ice Agents to conduct unconstitutional immigration enforcement operations as highly problematic. We are concerned about executive overreach and National Guard deployments for purposes not permitted by law.

We are constantly witnessing victims of infringements on their First Amendment rights to freedom of speech often punished for free expression. We are also witnessing some incidents of the silencing of free media in America, including government actions against specific news organizations and growing restrictions on press access.

We, the undersigned, are highly concerned about policies that threaten our fundamental freedoms and undermine the democratic foundation for everyone by undermining the rule of law and independence of the judiciary. In solidarity, we advocate for everyone's rights to due process, equal protection under the law, and freedom to speak freely without fear of persecution.

Our Commitment

The United States was founded as a democracy with the goal of ensuring everyone have access to opportunities. The U.S. legal community created due process of law, so individuals are ensured fair treatment under the law, including the right to a fair trial, and legal representation. Our mission is clear: to support the independence of our judiciary — and to defend U.S. democracy and Constitution of the United States of America — particularly due process, rule of law, and free speech protections. We choose to protect our American values and advocate for everyone's human rights. We condemn racism and prejudice in all its manifestations. Given the interdependence of all life on earth, we recognize our shared need to care for each other and our one earth.

Call to Action

We urge you to protect civil liberties for everyone. Uphold the civil rights of all people in the United States of America by actively building coalition across party lines to pass meaningful legislation and achieve lasting policy solutions which build on the following 3 steps:

  • Raise awareness of the deterioration of due process rights, then protect due process rights and rule of law. Preserving constitutional process guarantees that everyone is treated fairly under the law, shielding them from capricious decisions, and maintaining the independence of our judiciary and integrity of our legal system.

  • Build a "more perfect union" by implementing policies that address systemic inequalities, promote equitable access to opportunities, and foster an environment where every person feels valued and respected by our shared principles. At its core, these policies would focus on key areas such as — economic security, healthcare, education, justice, dignity, safety, community development, and free speech protections. This is a core part of working toward fairness guarantees that everyone has access to the tools and chances they require to prosper, creating a more just and inclusive society where we can harvest hope from our common humanity.

  • By making sure that those who violate constitutional protections be held accountable. The presence of transparency and accountability are critical for enforcing constitutional rights and ensuring nobody is above the law.

This is a pivotal moment where we must stand up for our shared values of equality, liberty, justice, dignity, safety, security, freedom, and fairness for everyone. We need to work towards a common goal of making sure that our American values become lived realities in the future rather than merely ideals.

By signing this petition, we demonstrate a shared commitment to defend our U.S. democracy and constitutional rights. We advocate and raise awareness for the people impacted by violations of the rule of law. We document civil rights battles through reports which highlights some wins and losses in legal challenges against federal policies. We invite everyone to join us in this movement for love and justice, and to imagine power that affirm everyone's humanity.

In solidarity,

Peace Love Power 1
