Urgent appeal for Justice & President's Rule in West Bengal

Urgent appeal for Justice & President's Rule in West Bengal
The Issue
To,
The Hon'ble President of India President of India,
Hon'ble Prime Minister of India Narendra Modi, PMO India
Sub: Urgent appeal for justice & imposition of President's rule in West Bengal
I take the liberty of this platform to write to you as a concerned & distressed citizen of this noble country and a commoner born & brought up in West Bengal, who has been deeply anguished by the the escalating lawlessness, rampant crime, and deteriorating governance in our beloved state.
The recent horrific incident at RG Kar Medical College, where a young and promising PGT doctor was brutally raped and murdered, has left the whole nation in shock and fear, and stirred the collective conscience of West Bengal. This tragedy, I'm sure you will agree, is not an isolated case but part of a growing pattern of violence and crime that has gripped West Bengal, in recent years.
From various media sources, first-hand accounts and such, what has emerged in the past few days, is as evident as daylight that the administration's inability to protect its people, especially women, from such heinous crimes is a glaring failure of governance.
The police, who are supposed to be the protectors of citizens, have been either ineffective or complicit in shielding the alleged perpetrators. There is a growing sense of fear and helplessness among the people, as those responsible for upholding the law appear to be failing us.
Hooliganism and political violence have become rampant, making it unsafe for ordinary citizens to go about their daily lives in West Bengal - be it post-poll violence, extortion, or innumerable cases of cultural assassination. The administration's response to these issues has been woefully inadequate, and there is a palpable sense of injustice and neglect.
The police's active role in stifling peaceful protests is glaringly evident from the recent clash with the ardent fan base & supporters of the venerable National Club of India - Mohun Bagan & the supporters of East Bengal, when the Durand Cup derby fixture was suspiciously canceled to curb gatherings. Fans were subjected to beating & harassment and what should have been a celebration of sport turned into a scene of revolt. The state’s inability to ensure safety during such a high-profile event is yet another example of the collapse of law and order in our state.
Coming back to the RG Kar Medical College horror, the state administration appears to be overwhelmed or unwilling to take decisive action against criminal elements, leading to a perception of impunity among wrongdoers.
While the CBI is on track with the case, and the recent development of the Supreme Court taking suo moto cognizance, there is still a growing erosion of public trust in the state government’s ability to protect citizens and uphold the rule of law. This is evident from the widespread protests and the calls for justice from various sections of society, including the medical fraternity, students, and other professionals who are hitting the streets on a daily basis.
In light of these incidents, I wish to reiterate that the state government of West Bengal is struggling to uphold its constitutional obligations, particularly in maintaining law and order and protecting the rights of its citizens.
On behalf of all my fellow citizens, with a desperate hope for change, I humbly appeal to you, and the highest authorities in our nation, to consider the imposition of President's Rule in West Bengal under Article 356 of the Indian Constitution. We need the central government to step in and restore law and order, protect the rights of citizens, and bring those responsible for these crimes to justice. The safety and security of millions of people depend on your swift and decisive action.
We have lost faith in the current state administration, and only your intervention can restore our confidence in the system.
Your's sincerely,
Avishek Basu
