A week ago, we received a full private treatment plan from Great Ormond Street Hospital (GOSH) for Maryam. This alone was a significant breakthrough, securing clinical acceptance for a child from Gaza is exceptionally difficult. It confirms that Maryam’s case is medically viable, with a clear treatment pathway offered by one of the world’s leading children’s hospitals.
The proposed cost for the full treatment is £700,000, because the offer was made through the private healthcare system. While this figure can seem shocking, it reflects standard private medical costs for complex, multidisciplinary care in the UK, including tests, intensive care, specialist teams, and long-term hospitalisation. It is not an arbitrary mark-up.
This reality underscores why government intervention is essential. Expecting a displaced family in a war zone to privately raise this amount is neither fair nor realistic. Maryam’s case exposes a serious policy gap: that the NHS humanitarian evacuation scheme for children in Gaza who need urgent medical care needs to be expanded, despite the UK’s capacity to treat them. We are therefore calling on the government to extend NHS-funded medical evacuation schemes or to support Maryam’s case on exceptional humanitarian grounds.
As Maryam’s case has grown in national and international profile, we have also experienced coordinated attacks on her social media platforms. Her accounts have been flooded by bot followers, a clear attempt to limit visibility, reduce engagement, and suppress donation appeals. This week, despite the increase in followers, donations have fallen sharply, and genuine engagement is being actively stifled.
This is precisely why public action matters now more than ever.
We are urging everyone to:
✅ Sign and share the petition widely. Our goal is 100,000 signatures, because when a petition reaches 10,000 signatures, the UK Government must issue an official written response.
This response is published publicly on the Parliament petitions website.
It often outlines the government’s current position, policy, or next steps on the issue. This is the accountability we need on Maryams case. Reaching this number would bring Maryam’s case, and the wider humanitarian gap it represents, directly to the national political stage.
💷 Donate anything you can, no matter the size. Every contribution counts and brings us closer to ensuring Maryam survives until her evacuation and to support her while she receives the urgent treatment she needs.
📢 Spread the story through your networks. The most powerful tool we have is a chain reaction, if each person shares the petition and appeal with just a handful of others, we can create unstoppable momentum.
Maryam’s case is high-profile, medically validated, and politically symbolic. Whoever steps in to facilitate her evacuation and treatment will be seen as acting with humanitarian leadership at a critical time. Your engagement — signing, donating, sharing — is not only helping one little girl, but also shining a light on systemic gaps and creating the pressure needed for real change.
Thank you to everyone single one of you who carries on supporting Maryam and continues her fight.
