URGENT ACTION TO BE TAKEN ON THE WHITE LOCH

The Issue

"The White Loch' is a tranquil remote setting within East Renfrewshire where people can paddleboard and engage in open water swimming." Sure, but let's admit there is a growing parking problem that has been occurring every summer since 2020.

In an earlier petition to raise awareness for Road Safety at this particular loch last year in 2021, East Renfrewshire refused to acknowledge that this was a growing problem and the dangerous driving conditions for road users of the B769. The petition was bought to the council's attention as it was picked up by Kristen Oswald MP. The correspondence which will be freely available for you to read shows that the council's solution to this problem was a water park at the Balgray Reservoir which surprise, surprise - has not happened and there does not appear to be going ahead any time soon.

Every summer over fifty cars minimum at one given time per day can be parked on blind hills and corners next to a reservoir bringing two lanes down to one with no passing places to allow free flow of traffic. Not to mention the cars that consistently do three point turns and drive up and down looking for somewhere to park cause more obstruction to road users.

Where users of the reservoir do not see the obstruction they are causing or the verbal bullying that occurs when presented with this opinion, road users from Newton Mearns and Stewarton have routinely began to report this to Police Scotland. Which MUST continue to happen as more the incident numbers associated with this location, the more attention local authorities have to give it.

On Friday 12th August, Police were called to move cars at around 6pm. Upon showing up, verbal abuse could be heard in protest from the other side of the Loch and suddenly three more police cars were called to control the situation. Local Police insist there is a problem now at this Loch and insist that East Renfrewshire Council and Scottish Water don't know how to control the situation but I have correspondence to prove that is incorrect information!

It is time now that we call for East Renfrewshire Council, Scottish Water and/or Police Scotland to listen to the public local demand for URGENT ACTION to be taken and measures to be put in place to stop this problem reoccurring every future summer onwards or every team Glasgow experience a heatwave.

We would be more than happy to meet with the council to suggest obvious and non-destructive measures to stop dangerous parking on this stretch of road. The council must understand that is not a cause that I will give up on as long as it is still a problem.

What also must be understood by the people who use this Loch is that we are not trying to actively stop people enjoying themselves at this location but visitors must understand that there is a residential residence nearby due privacy that you'd expect at your own home, bullying road users for the sake of a simple parking space is not acceptable on any level, double parking on a 60mph road next to open water where many fatal accidents has happen in prior years is not safe and when the Police is called to move you and they choose to move you, arguing back that you haven't done anything wrong does not make the fact you are doing something wrong go away.

So, East Renfrewshire... your move - everyone who signs this agrees something URGENT must be done. IMMEDIATELY.
