The city council last night unanimously approved the park as you created it. It was not without some drama.
While I did not see the small cabal of dissenters, they had a representative in the city council preach their case for them. The councilperson brought up a number of changes that the cabal had brought up at the last planning commission meeting. It seemed we were headed for problems.
Before the meeting, the Mayor and City Council had acknowledged receipt of our petition with over 500 signatures. (Thank you all very much!) During the meeting, Chris Cummings and I along with a fantastic Winfield homeowner spoke to why the park should move forward as you designed it without the changes.
The council member discussed that the process of amending the plan to make changes would again halt all progress. It was clear that made the rest of the council members uncomfortable because they knew of your petition and had just heard us speak. Eventually, they decided to move to a vote and the plan was approved 7-0 to build the park without the changes.
When we were alerted that our insider friend was concerned about this meeting, I honestly thought they were being overly paranoid. I now believe that without your signatures and our presence, the park would be dead in the water today and eventually would have been built to a far lesser standard. Thank you all very, very, much for your participation and good thoughts.
I have to say mention - I don’t know if there is an appeals process to a unanimous vote, but if there is, I wouldn’t be surprised to see one. We will let you know. Scott
