The Issue

Pre- Monsoon ChimatPada Flooding Photo

Decision Maker: Municipal Commissioner, Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC)

The Issue
Every monsoon season, residents of Chimatpada, Marol, Andheri (East), Mumbai face recurring Flooding that threatens their Health, Safety, Homes, and Livelihoods. What should be a normal rainy season often becomes a period of Fear, Disruption, and Uncertainty for Hundreds of Families.

Rainfall frequently causes waterlogging in Residential Lanes and Surrounding Areas, Leaving Families exposed to Unsafe Living conditions for days at a Time. Floodwaters enter Homes and Public Spaces, Damaging Personal Belongings, Disrupting Daily Life, and Creating Serious Sanitation Concerns.

Stagnant water becomes a Breeding ground for Mosquitoes and increases the Risk of Diseases such as Dengue, Malaria, Leptospirosis, and Other Waterborne Infections. Children, Senior Citizens, and People with existing health conditions are particularly vulnerable.

For many Residents, Flooding is not an Isolated incident but a recurring Crisis. Families face repeated Financial Losses, Interruptions to Work and Education, Threats to Public Safety, and Constant concern for the Health of their Loved Ones. As extreme rainfall events become more frequent, the risks facing the community continue to Grow.

What We Are Asking For
We urge the Municipal Commissioner, Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC), and concerned departments to take immediate action by:

  • Conducting a comprehensive assessment of Drainage and Flood-Risk Conditions in Chimatpada.
  • Restoring and Maintaining unobstructed Storm Water Flow and Drainage Systems.
  • Undertaking regular pre-monsoon Desilting and Maintenance activities.
  • Implementing long-term Infrastructure Improvements to reduce Flooding.
  • Deploying rapid-response teams during periods of Heavy Rainfall.
  • Strengthening Public Health measures to prevent disease outbreaks associated with stagnant water.
  • Providing residents with transparent updates on flood-mitigation efforts and implementation timelines.

Why This Matters
Every resident deserves to live in a safe and healthy environment free from preventable flooding and avoidable public health risks. Addressing this issue is not only about infrastructure—it is about protecting families, safeguarding public health, preserving livelihoods, and improving the quality of life of an entire community.

We call upon public authorities, elected representatives, community leaders, civil society organizations, and concerned citizens to support urgent action for Chimatpada.

Please sign this petition and help ensure a safer, healthier, and flood-resilient future for the residents of Chimatpada, Marol.

Together, we can bring attention to a long-standing community issue and encourage meaningful action before another monsoon places residents at risk.
