Urgent Action Needed to Combat Open Space Misuse and Environmental Pollution -Bellandur
The Issue
Dear Residents and Office Commuters
Addressed to following Decision Makers:
- Deputy Chief Minister, Karnataka
- Commissioner, BBMP
- MLA, Mahadevapura
- KSPCB (Karnataka State Pollution Control Board)
- Bengaluru Solid Waste Management Limited (Government)
We, the undersigned, urge you to join us in our petition to address escalating environmental concerns in Mahadevapura area. The affected areas have suffered from increasing pollution due to illegal waste dumping and burning.
Please take a look at the detailed document on the breadth of impact - Detailed Document Link
Key Issues:
Waste Dumping and Burning: We have identified few of the open plots at GPS coordinates Location1,Location2, Location3 & Location4 that are being used to dump various forms of waste. This includes plastics and hazardous materials, which are occasionally burned, releasing toxic fumes into our environment
Health Hazards: The resultant air pollution poses serious health risks, including respiratory problems and potential long-term impacts such as cancer. The toxins released can affect vital organs and significantly lower air quality.
Environmental Degradation: The continuous dumping is causing harm not only to air quality and polluting our soil & water. It is causing a visual blight that impacts our property values and quality of life.
Affected Areas: Mahadevapura
The issue impacts several key locations, including Panathur, Bhoganahalli, Doddakanahalli, Bellandur, Gear School Roads, Doddakannelli-Kaadubeesanahalli Road, and RMZ Ecoworld Road.
Proposed Solutions:
Barricades and Surveillance: We propose the construction of physical barricades to prevent unauthorized access to these open plots, and the installation of surveillance systems to monitor and deter illegal activities.
Community and Government Action: We appeal to the BBMP (Bruhat Bengaluru Mahanagara Palike) to enact enforceable penalties against violators and implement a strict monitoring regime. Community engagement in clean-up drives and awareness initiatives is also crucial.
Health and Safety Measures: Marshall deployment and community neighborhood watch programs are suggested to guard the area against further misuse.
Regular Cleanup & Chargeback to Site owners: Request BBMP to clean the property while simultaneously fining the property owners.
We believe the civic environment around our homes and workplaces is worth protecting. Your support in signing this petition will be instrumental in advocating for urgent action and sustainable solutions to these pressing environmental challenges. Together, we can inspire change and secure a healthier, cleaner, and more vibrant space for all.
Thank you for standing with us in this critical effort. Sign the petition today and make a difference!
