Urge Universal to Reschedule Shrek 5 and Minions 3 Release Dates

Urge Universal to Reschedule Shrek 5 and Minions 3 Release Dates
The Issue
For those of us who have found solace and joy in the Shrek universe, the news of Universal's decision to adjust the release date of Shrek 5 is more than a minor disappointment. The studio has chosen to replace Shrek 5’s original release date to December 23rd 2026, giving priority to yet another installment of the overly saturated Minions franchise related to the Despicable Me movies.
Shrek, as a franchise, is close to many of our hearts, providing many of us with laughter, heartful moments, and timeless lessons. Avid fans have been eagerly waiting for Shrek 5, initially due to be released on July 1st, 2026. Now, we're disheartened to learn that Universal is privileging the Despicable Me franchise, which, despite its success in the box office largely driven by the younger age demographic, has garnered criticism for lack of originality in latter sequels.
The newer Despicable Me films have seen a decreasing reception from audiences and critics, indicating a growing weariness for the franchise's repetitive and unoriginal content. On the other hand, Shrek has basked in steady popularity, its witty humor and genuine heart striking a chord with viewers of all ages.
By placing Shrek 5 later in the year, Universal is neglecting the cult following Shrek has amassed over the last decade. Shrek doesn't just appeal to children; it transcends age, resonating with adults and children alike through its storytelling and humor.
This petition seeks to urge Universal to reconsider their decision, proposing they swap the release dates: releasing Shrek 5 on July 1st 2026, and the third Minions movie on December 23rd 2026. Let's demonstrate our love for Shrek and our yearning for its next chapter. Your signature can help us bring this issue to Universal's attention and gift the Shrek community the installment we've been eagerly awaiting. Please sign this petition and make your voice heard.
