Hi everyone! 105,000 people have voiced their concerns about the use of plastic and what it is doing to our planet by signing this petition! Before this goes to the various supermarket chains, we need to let them know that people are speaking up and that this call for elimination of plastic packaging is out there. Please email Tesco and ask them to consider this campaign. Please also post the link to this petition on their Facebook page. Send them a letter in the post even! Every voice will help them to realise we are not going away and we want change. Here is a suggested letter/comment but feel free to write one yourself instead. Dear Tesco, Around the world, more than 8 million tonnes of plastic goes into the oceans. This is causing irreversible damage to our oceans and marine life that inhabit them. As I am sure you may have seen, shocking footage from Blue Planet II shows sea animals dying as a result of our irresponsible actions and our needless use of plastic packaging. This is a global problem that needs to be tackled now. I am writing to ask you to eliminate all plastic from your own brand packaging. This would be an incredible step in the fight against the negative impact of plastic on our planet, a step which Iceland have already made. This shows it can be done. I am urge you as one of the leading UK supermarkets to follow in these footsteps, to make a stand and to lead the way in a new achievable environmental pledge to eliminate the use of plastic from your own-brand packaging. The time for change is now. The ethics and conscience of your customers demands it. It has been suggested that if nothing changes, by 2050 there will be more plastic bottles in the ocean than fish.
