Winnie-the-Pooh, the beloved bear created by A.A. Milne  is an icon of British literature and deeply ingrained in our culture.   Children grow up playing Poohsticks and generations have been beguiled by the charm and humour of the stories.  Currently, Pooh, along with Tigger, Piglet, Eeyore and Kanga are held in a branch of the New York Public Library -  depriving the UK public of a chance to view an important part of our cultural heritage.

 Winnie and his friends have been very well looked after in New York but this year is the centenary of the publication of Winnie-the -Pooh and it is time he and his friends were returned to their home.  Imagine the toys being on display at the V&A Museum or the British Library, for millions of eager fans to see. 

The time is now for the UK Culture Secretary, in cooperation with other governmental bodies, to negotiate the permanent homecoming of Winnie-the-Pooh and his friends.
