600 and counting - Minister now has a copy

Dear Minister
I submit for your consideration this active petition regarding the retention and adequate resourcing of the COLLECT Art Purchase Scheme. In just five days, more than 600 people have added their names—reflecting strong community concern following recent media coverage and the voices of artists and arts businesses who rely on the Scheme.
It is understood that the headcount reduction required of Building Tasmania includes the removal of the clerical role that administers COLLECT. While this may create a small salary saving, it places at risk a program that has consistently delivered high value, strong outcomes, and national recognition. COLLECT has generated millions of dollars for Tasmania’s arts and culture sector – a sector the government has consistently identified as central to the state’s brand, tourism offering, and international reputation.
Arts Tasmania is already operating at full stretch. Removing this position may appear minor, but the responsibilities cannot be absorbed into existing workloads without compromising service delivery. Without dedicated administration, the program is at risk of discontinuation by attrition. It is important that the organisation is supported with a sustainable solution that allows it to continue delivering this high‑impact program.
COLLECT is internationally recognised and widely regarded across Australia as a model program for supporting artists and arts businesses. The petition reflects passionate support from Tasmanians and from interstate signatories who value what the program contributes to our creative community. We respectfully ask you to please use your powers as Minister for the Arts to ensure COLLECT is retained and sustainably resourced.
