The Taoiseach of Ireland has traditionally presented a St. Patrick's Day gift to the US president on behalf of the Irish people, a tradition that many feel should not continue under the current circumstances.

The US president has time and again raised concerns among the global community for his actions and statements. He is a known felon and adjudicated sex offender, a racist who supports far right militias and threatens our EU neighbours.

Furthermore, his alliances with despotic leaders and calls for ethnic cleansing of Gaza have raised questions about his stance on human rights and peace. 

Many members of the Irish community have expressed their discomfort with us aligning ourselves with such a figure by presenting this symbolic gift. As a culture steeped in values of equality, peace, and justice, we believe it is time to reconsider this gesture.
