Urge the State of Hawaii to sue RealPage Software Corporation

The Issue

I have been a resident of the beautiful Kapilina Beachhomes located in Hawaii for seven years, an idyllic community managed by Texas-based corporation, Greystar Communities. The tranquil images of our tropical paradise, however, are threatened by an unseen and unyielding monster - an algorithm controlling our rent.

This algorithm, employed by our corporate landlords, is a product of Software known as RealPage. Its cold calculations devoid of empathy, determine our rent increases with no regard to the lived experiences of the tenant population it impacts. As a result, both my neighbors and I have faced continual, heartless rent increases with each passing lease renewal.

The cruelty of algorithm-powered price hikes leaves many of us living under a cloud of housing insecurity, with the dark specter of financial strain always looming over our heads. The warm aloha spirit of our communities is being dampened by the chill of stress and uncertainty.

I am not alone in this struggle. Fellow renters across Hawaii are grappling with the same fears, waking up every morning with the question: "Will we be able to afford the next rent increase?"

Because RealPage Software Corporation is currently facing a federal multi-state anti trust lawsuit for these business practices. It's high time we held these corporations accountable and fostered an environment of fair rental practices in our islands.

I hope this online petition will help raise awareness, so that we may share our voices and empower the state with evidence and written testimony to join the DOJ on this lawsuit.

There is hope on the horizon if we share our voices together that we may regain our housing security and a sense of hope for our future.
