Making it to 1,000 signatures at game time was amazing, but seeing as the game was exclusively on Peacock the petition didn’t quite reach the set goal, I’ve decided changing direction with the petition to seek out a similar goal, but with a broader approach.

The National Football League (NFL) is considering expanding its broadcasting reach into various streaming services. While this may seem like a step forward in embracing modern technology, it inadvertently restricts certain people or communities from enjoying their favorite team's games. Not everyone has access to these streaming services due to financial constraints or lack of proper internet connectivity. According to the Federal Communications Commission, as of 2020, about 14.5 million rural Americans still lack access to broadband internet (FCC). This move by the NFL could potentially alienate this significant number of fans who have been loyal followers of their teams for years.

Moreover, traditional broadcasting has always been an integral part of American culture and sports fandom. It brings together families and communities in front of televisions in homes, bars, and community centers across the country.

We urge the NFL not only to consider its global expansion but also remember its roots and those fans who do not have access to streaming platforms. We request that they continue providing games through traditional broadcasting channels alongside any new digital platforms they may adopt.

Please sign this petition if you believe that all fans should be able to watch their favorite team play regardless of their ability to subscribe to a streaming service.

The National Football League (NFL) has decided to stream the Chiefs playoff game exclusively on Peacock, a streaming service. This decision is a significant departure from traditional broadcasting methods and restricts access for many fans who do not subscribe to this specific platform.

The NFL's move towards exclusive streaming deals is part of a broader trend in sports broadcasting, but it risks alienating fans who cannot or choose not to subscribe to these services. According to Nielsen ratings, traditional TV broadcasts of NFL games reached an average of 14.4 million viewers per game in 2020 (source: Nielsen). By contrast, Peacock reported having only 33 million sign-ups as of December 2020 (source: NBCUniversal), and not all of these are active users or football fans.

This petition calls upon the NFL to reconsider its decision and ensure that all fans can watch the Chiefs playoff games without needing a subscription service like Peacock. We believe that sports should be accessible for everyone, regardless of their ability or willingness to pay for additional streaming services.

Please sign this petition if you agree that the NFL should broadcast Chiefs playoff games on traditional platforms as well as online ones.
