On Friday, March 14, 2025, due to budgeting concerns, Garden City Community College made the decision not to renew Director Dr. Joshua Kelly’s contract. As a performer under the direction of Dr. Joshua Kelly, I have witnessed firsthand the transformative power of his work. The lessons learned in his theatre program have been life-changing not only for me, but also for countless other students. We believe that it's pivotal for the continuation of the theater program at Garden City Community College to renew Dr. Kelly's contract.

Dr. Kelly’s methods have led to the staging of several successful shows, leveraging the visibility of our college both locally and regionally. Evidence of his impact can be seen by the public outcry over this decision. Many students have already committed to attend the Community College in pursuit of participation in the theater program. Students not just majoring in theater, but in Education, Psychology, and Visual Art. Closing this door may push these individuals to pursue education elsewhere. This affects the entire community, not just Acting majors. 

With his departure, there will be no theater program. This means that no students will be able to enroll in this art indefinitely.

Therefore, we are appealing to the Board of Trustees for Garden City Community College to consider our cause, and Renew Dr Joshua Kelly’s contract. Retain the spirit and integrity of our beloved theater program, so that our impact can continue. Sign our petition today to support this vital component of our community's education and culture.
