With elation as well as grief for those who have died and suffered needless life debilitating injuries, we are happy to share that the City of Seattle’s Department of Construction & Infrastructure has issued a “Hazard” report demanding that Seattle Parks & Recreation remove catwalks, ladders and appurtenances that make Gas Works structures climbable. The city must comply by May 15, or risk a law suit and $500 daily fine.
This is a long overdue action that was once again put in the limelight due to tragedy and loss of another young man, 15 year old Mattheis Johnson last July.
Your support, the community outrage, and our constant efforts to get our voices heard through media channels, Landmark Board public meetings, emails and phone calls have MATTERED! Never forget that your voice matters.
Thank you for signing. Let’s truly celebrate once the work has happened and we can all breath a little easier knowing that Gas Works park will be a place of safety for all.
