Urge the City of Coldstream to Reconsider Participation in The Vernon Active Living Centre

Urge the City of Coldstream to Reconsider Participation in The Vernon Active Living Centre
The Issue
Residents of Coldstream are deeply concerned about the decision made by our city to decline participation in The Active Living Centre. This decision was proposed in a referendum on October 15, 2022, and has left us feeling unheard and disregarded. We believe this choice negatively impacts us all by imposing a significant cost barrier on our recreational activities.
The Vernon Rec Centre now charges non-residents higher fees for recreation services such as hockey, skating, and other programs. These costs are substantial per person and even more so per family. Our community's physical health and wellbeing should not be compromised due to financial constraints.
In addition we are in desperate need of a new facility. The community has grown and trying to get into programs often leads to frustration amongst those looking to stay active. Often programs like swim lessons are fully booked within minutes of becoming available and children are put on waitlist that rarely lead to entry. If Coldstream does not participate in the Vernon Active Living Center the City of Vernon has said it will open programs to Vernon residents only for two weeks and then neighbouring communities after leaving us in a position to be left out of all programs if demand is high.
We implore the City of Coldstream to reconsider its stance on this matter. By participating in The Active Living Centre initiative, we can ensure that all residents have access to affordable recreational activities without being financially burdened.
We urge you to listen to your constituents' concerns about this pressing issue affecting our daily lives. Please reconsider your decision for the betterment of our community's health and wellbeing.
Sign this petition if you believe that every resident deserves access to affordable recreational facilities without facing financial hardship. We need 1000 signatures to have our voices heard.
