Urge Subaru to bring back the Internal Combustion Engine STI WRX

The Issue

The STI was Subaru’s heartbeat—the part of the company that said, “We still care about people who drive for the sake of it.” And right now, it feels like that heartbeat’s gone missing.

We at Rallysport Direct used to own the VA WRX STI. It had its issues, but when that turbo spooled and the boost hit, all sins were forgiven. It was a mechanical handshake with something honest. We loved that car. We drove it to work, to nowhere, to everywhere. It made every errand feel like reconnaissance. And then, stuff happened. A move, a restructuring, a different corporate owner. Selling it felt like breaking up with someone who hadn’t done anything wrong.

So with the STI concept that was recently unveiled, this isn’t just nostalgia if Subaru's ultimate decision is one (the electric) or the other (the internal combustion engine). It’s a direct response to your call for customer feedback: bring it back as an internal combustion engine. Give us something to aspire to, something with that rally-bred madness and mechanical honesty. Something worth regretting selling all over again, blown engines included.

We recommend Subaru to develop the internal combustion engine STI over the electrified version. We know, based on feedback on our socials, that this would be well-received. Building a new internal combustion engine STI version would not only pay homage to Subaru’s rally heritage but also revive the thrill and passion among driving enthusiasts who’ve long been supporters of the brand. Please join us in requesting Subaru by signing this petition. We hope to present this to Subaru of America on March 31st, 2026, so please sign this petition by then!

Note: please also fill out the contact form HERE, which we will forward to Subaru.
