Urge State Senators to Pass Jonny’s Law

The Issue

Jonny’s Law is a proposed piece of legislation named in honor of Jonathan Tomasello, a vibrant young soul whose life was tragically cut short by the relentless and extreme bullying he experienced. In December 2023, Jonathan took his own life, leaving behind devastated family and friends. The emotional scars of such a loss are profound and enduring, and Jonny’s Law seeks to ensure that such tragedies are not repeated.

Bullying remains a pervasive issue in our schools and communities, leading to dire consequences for those affected. According to the National Center for Educational Statistics, 20% of students report being bullied. Alarmingly, kids who experience bullying are twice as likely to attempt suicide than their non-bullied peers (CDC data). Jonny’s Law aims to address this issue head-on by implementing comprehensive anti-bullying measures in schools across the state.

The proposed law includes mandatory bullying prevention and response protocols, school staff training on recognizing and handling bullying situations, and a support system for bullied students. These measures would help create safer educational environments and ensure that students like Jonathan are protected.

Passing Jonny’s Law is vital to take a stand against bullying and provide our children with safe learning spaces. It's time for our state senators to lead by passing this critical legislation.

Please support the fight against bullying and honor Jonathan’s memory by signing this petition. Your signature can help spur the necessary legislative change to save lives.
