FAQ: What is #KHReLink and the Kingdom Hearts Missing-Link Petition About?

What is Kingdom Hearts Missing-Link?

• A now-cancelled mobile game with comparable graphics and combat to Kingdom Hearts 3, in development for many years.
• Intended to bridge major plotlines between Union Cross, Dark Road, and set up Kingdom Hearts IV.
• There were two different gameplay loops to this game. The first is story and challenges, which is at Scala ad Caelum. The second is becoming stronger in the Astral Dimension. You can’t continue if you’re not strong enough, and you can’t unlock more to do if you don’t continue the story. Hence, two core loops, and they both work in tandem.

Why is the cancellation such a big deal?

• It leaves a major gap in the Kingdom Hearts story.
• Fans were emotionally invested and excited for its lore contributions.
• The game represented an unwritten era in the KH universe.
• The Kingdom Hearts community has a massive game gap that could be filled with Missing-Link, as it's still unknown when Kingdom Hearts IV will release. (latest KH game came out 2020)

Why should i sign it? Square Enix and Disney will definitely use it in the future in some form or another…

• We have absolutely no indication of that being the case. SQEX just announced that they have cancelled it. They did not clarify whether or not they’ll use it in the future. This project can act as an engagement proof-of-concept to show them that there still is an interest towards Missing-Link. If we had to describe this campaign in one word, it would be “insurance”
• We can use this campaign to get Square Enix to respond in a more clarifying way regarding the future of Missing-Link.

What does the #KHReLink campaign want?

• For the story and content of Missing-Link to be shared with fans—in any form.
• Ideally: release the original mobile game.
• Alternatively: a PC/console port, cinematic film, or cutscene compilation.

What do fans suggest if a game release isn’t possible?

• For example; a cinematic version could be done in the as a cutscene compilation, or a Kingdom Hearts χ Back Cover style movie and include:
  • Full animated fight scenes.
  • Key story elements preserved for context and emotional impact.
•  A novel, much like they did with Final Fantasy XV for its cancelled DLC.

Is the campaign against Square Enix or Disney?

• No. It’s a respectful, passionate appeal—not harassment.
• Organized mass letter campaigns are nothing new, in fact they are a next logical step to take when creating a movement. (see: Operation Rainfall for example)
• The goal is to voice disappointment, share support, and encourage transparency and closure.

How can I support the campaign?
