Urge Senator Ted Cruz to Challenge the Senate Filibuster Record

The Issue

The Junior US Senator from Texas, Ted Cruz, has an unfortunate habit of affecting major Texas sporting events negatively. As passionate sports fans of the University of Houston and Texas constituents, we have no other option than to redirect his energies somewhere more effective during the upcoming Final Four in San Antonio, April 5-7. We firmly believe that Senator Cruz's ego is clearly enormous, and if applied in an alternate time and place, it could make a significant impact on our state and University of Houston’s athletic prospects.

It is our suggestion that Senator Cruz redirects this well known debating skills to the floor of the Senate. Specifically we recommend that he challenges the Senate filibuster record starting Saturday, April 5, 2025.  Currently, the longest filibuster was conducted by U.S. Senator Cory Booker, who filibustered for a whopping 25 hours on March 31-April 1st, 2025. Senator Cruz is infamous for his debating skills and exemplary stamina - remember his 21-hour speech in 2013, in the protest against the Affordable Care Act? This capacity makes him an ideal candidate to take on yet another pointless and time consuming exercise in grandstanding.

By advocating for this cause, we're not just encouraging Senator Cruz to make history but, more importantly, we're giving him a chance to use his oratory skills far from San Antonio and the NCAA Final Four. Sign our petition to rally support for sending Senator Cruz on this historic challenge.
