When schools remain open during Diwali and Eid, Hindu, Sikh, Jain, and Muslim students are forced to choose between their education and their faith. This is a choice no student should have to make. By adding these holidays to our school calendars, we demonstrate a commitment to creating truly inclusive learning environments that respect and celebrate our diverse community.

In Westchester County, only 10 districts have changed their calendars to include these holidays, and we urge the remaining 33 to take the same action. As the Hindu and Muslim communities grow in number, the need for adopting these holidays remains ever-so integral.
