The Issue

As an LGBT Jew and a dedicated volunteer with San Diego Pride for over a decade, I feel unsafe, unheard, and unrepresented in light of the decision to have Kehlani perform at this year's event. San Diego Pride has always been a safe haven for people from diverse backgrounds, where love, acceptance, and inclusivity are at its core. However, inviting an artist who has expressed antisemitic views and made calls for violence contradicts these values and threatens our community's safety.

Kehlani, a prominent musical artist, has been criticized for statements and actions that many perceive as antisemitic. Her rhetoric, unfortunately, resonates with instances of antisemitism that have become alarmingly more frequent in our society. The Anti-Defamation League reports a 34% increase in antisemitic incidents across the U.S. in 2022, raising concerns among Jewish communities nationwide. Adding voice to such negativity in a space meant for unity and peace is not acceptable.

San Diego Pride has a responsibility to ensure that all attendees, performers, and volunteers feel safe, respected, and valued. By allowing Kehlani to perform, there is a risk of alienating and potentially endangering Jewish attendees and those who stand against antisemitism. To maintain its reputation as an inclusive and secure event, it is essential for San Diego Pride to re-evaluate this decision.

There are numerous talented artists who align with San Diego Pride's mission to celebrate diversity and promote peace without perpetuating hate. We urge the event organizers to consider these alternatives and ensure the stage is shared by artists who uplift and unite our community.

Help safeguard the integrity and inclusiveness of San Diego Pride by signing this petition to cancel Kehlani's performance and choose an artist who embodies the true spirit of Pride. Stand with us to advocate for a peaceful and hate-free celebration.
